Til Gajak

Til Gajak

Til gajak is a traditional Punjabi dish and especially made for Sakat Chauth, Makar Sankranti and  Lohri.This is very healthy and nutritious. sesame seeds and jaggery gives a good boost of iron and  also rich in protein, carbohydrates.




Ingredients:

  • Til (sesame) - 1 cup
  • Jaggery (gur) - 1 cup
  • Ghee - 2 tbsp

Method:

  1. Dry roast the sesame seeds in a heavy pan om medium flame stirring continuously till they are turn into light golden color.
  2. Take out the roasted sesame seeds in a plate and keep aside.
  3. Heat the ghee in a pan and break off jaggery into small pieces.
  4. Add the jaggery and melt jaggery on a low flame while stirring continuously.
  5. When jaggery becomes thick then turn off the flame.
  6. Add the roasted sesame seeds and mix well.
  7. When mixture done, spread the mixture on the greased thali or  rolling board.
  8. Flatten it thinly into 1 cm. Cut into square pieces with the help of a Sharp knife.
  9. When the mixture is sufficiently cooled,  pick up each piece from the board using a knife or ladle.
  10. Store in an air-tight container.
